Is it possible to get a dog shipped from one place to another to purchase one?

I mean, to me it kind of sounds like abuse to some how "ship" a dog. But I sware there is safe ways for it to happen. Like if I purchased a dog from another state to mine through mail or plane or something would that be possible and how exactly would it happen?
