Why do some people get offended when you say their hair is black?

There's this girl at my school, and I sware her hair is jet black. Whenever people describe her as the girl with black hair, she insists on arguing it's brown. It doesn't make any sense. Is it ignorant to consider very very dark brown and black hair the same thing?
