Can someone please give me a quick summary of 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".... do you recommend it?

im talking about either the book or movie. what is it about? from what ive seen/heard its just 2 guys on a whole bunch of drugs. is it suppose to be funny, political, etc? Im asking b/c i know alot of ppl who sware by the book. thanks
