Katerina and Stefan's relationship?

so did he really loves her, i don't understand the point of hating her when she never compelled her love. And i know that Katherine genuinely loves Stefan, ( correct me if I'm wrong about it ) but why did Stefan hates her? personally I think that deep down Stefan's heart, he still loves Katherine and that's the reason why he fall in loves with Elena because of their uncanny resemblance.
